Please ConsiderI have a pastor friend in Northeastern Pennsylvania who needs our help. He is pastoring in a rural area of the state and has faithfully ministered to the people there. Being in a rural area also means that his congregation size is limited and the folks are not wealthy.
As of late he has had some health issues and because he only has limited emergency medical only insurance (which does not cover much of anything) he is very far behind in his bills. He has high blood pressure and high cholesterol (medications are expensive). He has gone for weeks without meds so that his three children are cared for first.
He also has sleep apnea, a sleep disorder in which he stops breathing in the night. It is probable that with out treatment he will, one of these day, stop breathing in the night and never start again. At minimum because of the disorder he lives in a state of sleep deprivation (extreme exhaustion and bouts of illness). The solution is a CPAP machine that will help him to sleep at night by assisting him to breath. The cost for the machine prescribed is $2,600.00 plus tax and auxiliary supplies, totaling about $3,000.00. This cost would be on top of his already existing medical bills ($10,000 plus).
Of course, his only solution is to not get the machine and cancel any further doctor visits and tests, including the ongoing blood work for his elevated cholesterol, until the current bills are paid. The best guess for paying off the current bills is summer of 2010 (barring any emergencies).
I also found out that the doctor wants to remove his wife’s diseased gallbladder at a cost of $13,000 which they cannot afford. Their only option is to wait for it to rupture and then it may be covered under their insurance.
Do you see my concern. I have done all that I can and now I ask you for your help.
